The Porsche 911 Turbo made its production debut in 1974 as the first production 911 Turbo. Internally designated Type 930, the original Turbo used a 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six producing 260 PS. Porsche had developed its turbocharging expertise through motorsport, and the 930 brought this technology to a road car while combining it with a higher level of luxury and everyday usability.

Visually, the 930 Turbo was immediately distinctive. Its wider body, flared wheel arches and large fixed rear spoiler gave the car an aggressive stance that became one of the defining shapes of the 1970s. Porsche produced 2,850 examples of the original 3.0-litre Turbo during its first three years of production.

The subsequent 911 Turbo 3.3 arrived for the 1978 model year with increased engine capacity, an intercooler and 300 PS, but the original 3.0-litre 930 remains particularly significant as the car that established 'Turbo' as one of Porsche's defining performance names.
