The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 was launched in 1968 as the successor to the 275 GTB/4. Although the name "Daytona" has become widely associated with the car, it was never its official model name. The designation 365 GTB/4 refers to the car's technical specifications: "365" indicates the approximate displacement per cylinder, "GTB" stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, and "4" signifies its four overhead camshafts.

Beneath its long hood lies a 4.4-litre, 60-degree V12 engine that produces 352 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. According to Ferrari's official figures, the top speed of the 365 GTB/4 is 280 km/h. The rear-mounted transaxle contributes to favourable weight distribution while maintaining the traditional front-engine layout typical of Ferrari grand tourers.

The design of the Daytona was crafted by Pininfarina, with Leonardo Fioravanti’s original work creating its long, low, and sharply tapered profile. Early models featured fixed headlights under a transparent Plexiglas panel, while retractable headlights were introduced in 1971.

The 365 GTB/4 also demonstrated its prowess in competitive racing. Ferrari's official records indicate class victories for the Daytona at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972, 1973, and 1974, proving that this elegant grand tourer had not only extraordinary road car performance but also genuine racing capabilities.
